Crispy BBQ tofu is simple and delicious. This recipe only has a few ingredients, but it is packed with flavor. Works great for lunch or dinner. This crispy BBQ tofu plate includes crispy BBQ tofu, Mama’s Mash Made Vegan, corn, and broccoli. You can replace anything on this plate to your liking. Whenever I make this dish, I always change up the veggies or I’ll make a sweet potato mash instead of a normal mash to keep an easy recipe diverse and interesting.
BBQ Tofu Plate
Ingredients
- 1 block extra firm tofu
- 1/2 cup BBQ sauce
- 1/2 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- salt & pepper to taste
- OPTIONAL SIDES
- mashed potatoes
- steamed broccoli
- fresh, frozen, or canned corn
Instructions
Drain and press excess water from the block of tofu. Cut into cubes and add to a medium bowl.
Add 1/2 tablespoon olive oil and stir to ensure all the tofu is coated. Then sprinkle in the cornstarch and stir gently. Season with garlic powder and salt & pepper.
In a pan over medium heat, add 1/2 tablespoon olive oil and add the tofu to the pan in a single layer. Cook for 7-9 minutes, then flip and cook on the other side for an additional 7 minutes, or until the tofu is golden and crispy.
Once the tofu is crispy, reduce the heat to low and add the BBQ sauce. Stir and allow the BBQ sauce to get sticky and crispy on the tofu.
Assemble your plate to your liking. I added a healthy serving of mashed potatoes topped with pepper, paprika, vegan butter, and green onions, add some of the BBQ tofu, steamed broccoli (or any veggie), and finish it off with some corn. Enjoy!
